Ryan Cole Hicks is Born
Ryan picture On Wednesday March 7th, we welcomed our second son, Ryan Cole Hicks, into our family. He weighed 9 pounds 3 ounces and is 21.5 inches in length. Everybody is doing well and enjoying the new addition to the family.

I have greatly appreciated every one being so patient with my taking time off work so that I could enjoy our new addition. I will return to teaching on Tuesday, March 20th and will do my best to return to my normal teaching schedule.

Congratulations to:

  •  Chris Brooks: Chris (pictured on the right) has lowered his index from a 31 to a 25 and is on the verge of going much lower.
  •  Javier Mawhinney: Javier shot his career low round of 75 in Palm Springs recently. Not too bad for someone who has only been playing golf for a year and whose previous best was 91 before he started taking lessons last November.
  •  Yu Chung Cheng: Yu Chung (pictured on the left) has lowered his handicap from a 27 to a 14 in the last year.
  • Karen Jensen: Karen has been one of the most improved golfers of the Stadium Golf Center Club. She has lowered her index from a 21 to a 14.Art Sault: Art tied his career low round of 81 at The Golf Club of California.
  • Tyler House, Chris Watters, Tim Haigh, Kevin Crowley, Tony Macalpin, and Javier Mawhinney: They have all successfully qualified for their high school teams, with both Tyler and Tony already medaling in some of their matches.
  • Justin Hicks: Although I have not had a lot of time to work on my game, I have still been playing some pretty good golf. I am currently in second place for the San Diego Chapter PGA player of the year. I missed qualifying for the Buick Invitational by 1 shot and have finished in a T for 3rd and T for 2nd in my other two events.

11      In January, I attended the Titleist Performance Institute seminar and another Jim Hardy Plane Truth Seminar. Both were very informative and helpful to my teaching. The TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) seminar was conducted over two full days and went over the relationship of the body to the golf swing. They have a very thorough screening for each golfer to help identify the potential problem area(s) in the body. Once the screening is complete, a program of exercises is set up through TPI to help improve those parts of the body which may be leading to deficiencies in the golf swing. I successfully passed their test and became one of only 10 PGA professionals to be TPI certified in California.

This was the second Jim Hardy seminar that I have attended and found it very helpful to my teaching. For those who do not know who Jim Hardy is, Jim is the author of the Plane Truth ( 1 and 2 Plane Golf Swings). I first heard of Jim Hardy at the 2004 National Teaching Summit and believe that his information and knowledge is the best of any golf instructor on the planet. I have adopted and used quite a bit of his information and have seen much more improvement in my students as a a result. The approach is very logical and easy to follow ,making the golf swing much simpler to understand. His second book "The Plane Truth for Golfers- Master Class" just came out and is a tremendous addition to his first book. I have studied all of his books and DVD's and have found them to be very well done.
